The Irish Muslim Council — Comhairle Mhoslamach na hÉireann (IMC/CMÉ) is an All-Ireland representative body of Irish Muslims working for equality and social cohesion through advocacy, policy and bridge-building. The organisation was founded as the Irish Muslim Peace & Integration Council in 2015, and was renamed the Irish Muslim Council in June 2022. IMC represents a broad range of groups in the Irish Muslim Community, with affiliated bodies and Islamic Centres in Athlone, Belfast, Cork, Dublin, Limerick and Port Laois, and members in all thirty-two counties.
Since the organisations foundation, it has focused on three core competencies: advocacy, policy and bridge-building. Believing firmly in the Irish proverb “Ar scáth a chéile a mhaireann na daoine” – “we live in each other’s shadows” as a philosophy for all of our work, the Council strives to deliver integration, social cohesion and the breaking down of barriers for the Irish Muslim community and wider society.
Standing firmly against radicalisation and all forms of prejudice since day one, the Council and it’s affiliated Islamic Centres are open and safe spaces where all are welcome to join our events regardless of religion, background or identity.
